Mike Moran – Wood Carving
Mike started whittling wood with his grandfather when he was 10 years old. Now in his seventies he has had a life long love of working with wood. He attended John C. Campbell Folk Art School in Brasstown, NC for several wood carving classes in the early 1980’s. Studying other artists and their techniques helped him develop his own signature work. Many varied interests and the love of nature have influenced him. Drawn to birding and ornithology he carves many birds. However he specializes in the hummingbird. Small and appearing delicate it’s life is intriguing. Mike carves these beautiful birds from numerous types of wood with each being unique and no two alike. He loves to see others share his enthusiasm for these wonderful creatures.
