Carol Collins – Doll Artist
Carol moved to Sparta over 25 years ago and lives outside Sparta on 30 acres of woods with beautiful creeks and an abundance of wildlife. The setting brings her tranquility to the soul, and that inner peace allows for the creativity that was hidden for so many years. She has always loved sewing, mostly drapes, bedspreads and other home décor. I took decorating classes and opened a store in Elkin
Now retired after years in corporate sales, retail sales and owning two businesses, she has time to indulge in the artistic side of sewing, creating “fantasy dolls” and bag keepers. They start in her mind and develop as she sews and draws the faces. Embellishments come from hand painted fabrics, broken jewelry and bits and pieces of things acquired over time.
Creating these dolls continues to be a learning experience for Carol. She took classes from Internationally known doll marker, Ankie Daanin, and continues to experiment and evolve her craft. Carol says, “My reward is reflected in the smiles I see on those who purchase my ‘Little Gems’”.
