Featured Artist of the Month
Claudia Kimbrough
Claudia was born with a love of color and an intuitive feel for combining colors in pleasing and interesting ways. She loves blending different types of materials together to make new artworks.
Her art is free-flowing, impressionistic, and abstract. Each piece captures the essence of the object or idea, rather than an exact representation. Wabi-sabi imperfection makes each piece unique and true to her vision. (If you need straight lines and perfect corners, please look elsewhere!)
She currently focuses on art felting, fiber, textile and paper collage, as well as art quilting. Her paper and textile art uses recycled and found materials, along with new fabrics – because textile people can’t resist acquiring more fabric! Like her collages, her quilts seldom use existing patterns. Instead, each one tells a story, capturing memories of places she’s been and people in her life.
Much of Claudia’s work is influenced by travel. In fact, she learned wet and needle felting while in Scotland. She collects fabrics, art papers, wool and other fibers wherever she visits. Many of her current works incorporate new and vintage kimono silks acquired during her travels in Japan.
Claudia was born and raised in Berkeley California, but, after over forty years in North Carolina, she considers herself to be a proud North Carolinian. .
